Duffield Castle

Discover the foundations of what was once reputedly the third largest Norman Castle in the country.

Duffield Castle was once reputedly the third largest Norman Castle in the country, until it’s destruction in 1266 by King Henry III. Climb the steps and follow the verse to help you imagine the dramas that took place here.

Today the site is cared for by The National Trust but all that remains are the castle foundations and a fine view across the Derwent Valley.  The remains of the castle are just a 5 minute walk from the station.  See the walking route in our Family Activity Walk from Duffield Station.
