Shortly after departing from Derby, views of riverside meadows appear around Duffield and Belper before gradually turning to steeper sided ancient woodlands, hugging the hillsides.
After numerous crossings of the River Derwent, a panoramic vista welcomes passengers into Cromford with fine views across Cromford Meadows towards Cromford Canal, Cromford Mills and Willersley Castle. At Matlock Bath, the Victorians were left in awe by the sheer cliffs of High Tor, from beneath which your train emerges out of the tunnel and into Matlock.
