Derwent Valley Mills

Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site is a fascinating series of historic mill complexes.

Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site runs over 15 miles between Derby and Matlock Bath. The World Heritage Site contains a fascinating series of historic mill complexes in Derby, Belper, Cromford and Matlock Bath which can be accessed from their local station.  These include some of the world’s first ‘modern’ factories, where water power was first successfully harnessed for textile production – a milestone in the Industrial Revolution.

Museum of Making is open Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Monday.

Cromford Mills is open daily.

Strutt’s North Mill in Belper provides tours on Wednesday and Saturday at 11am and 1pm. Walking tours of historic Belper also take place on a regular basis

Sir Richard Arkwright’s Masson Mills, between Cromford and Matlock Bath is open for pre-booked tours only.
