Explore More for Less This Summer with Free Bus Travel for Kids
This summer, it’s even easier to explore the Peak District by train and bus. As part of the Government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme, children aged 5–15 travel free on participating local bus services throughout August, while adults can benefit from the £3 bus fare cap.
The Derwent Valley Line connects with buses to popular destinations including Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Buxton, Wirksworth, Carsington Water and the Peak District National Park, making it easy to enjoy a car-free family day out.
Until 1 September, many attractions are also offering savings through a temporary VAT reduction, including Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom in Matlock Bath, helping families stretch their holiday budgets even further.

- Explore the Peak District on the Open Top Peak Sightseer from Chatsworth (via Matlock)
- From Beeston town centre catch the frequent 36 to Wollaton Hall.
- In Belper, jump aboard the 6.2 or 6.3 to discover Heage Windmill.
- Book a ride from Cromford Station with Derbyshire Connect and explore Dovedale or visit Tissington Hall or Carsington Water.
- Explore further from Matlock into the Peak District National Park:
- visit Bakewell or Haddon Hall on 6.1 or Transpeak;
- catch the 160 to Chatsworth house and gardens or
- discover Stanton Moor and Youlgreave on bus 172.
