High Peak Trail

High Peak Trail is a 17.5 mile walking and cycling trail near Cromford

High Peak Trail. is a 17.5 mile walking and cycling trail from High Peak Junction near Cromford to Dowlow near Buxton.  The Trail leads steeply uphill to Black Rocks a weathered rock outcrop popular with walkers and climbers.  A little further along the trail are the, National Stone Centre, Steeple Grange Light Railway, Mount Cook Adventure Centre and Middleton Top Countryside Centre near Wirksworth.

From Cromford station it is about a 30 minute (1.5 mile) walk along the Cromford Canal, to the start of the High Peak Trail at High Peak Junction, see the Cromford walking route from our Activity Book

From Whatstandwell station it is about a 40 minute (2 mile) walk along the Cromford Canal, to the start of the High Peak Trail at High Peak Junction, see the Whatstandwell walking route from our Activity Book

Visiting High Peak Trail by bus: Catch bus 6.1 or 110/111 from Matlock Bath (outside the train station) or Cromford market place (15 minute walk from train station). You can also catch the X17 to Wirksworth from Sheffield and Matlock. View the bus timetables here, and please check with the travel operator before you travel.
