Family Activity Walk Matlock Bath

Perri’s family tour of Matlock Bath leads through Lovers’ Walks to Derwent Gardens.

Perri’s family tour of Matlock Bath leads through Lovers’ Walks to Derwent Gardens with the option of the lower riverside path or the steeper woodland walk with fine views and steep steps down to the river.

To access the higher woodland path, follow the green fingerpost signs through the car park and coach park to ‘Lovers Walks’ and ascend the ramp between the bollards onto the footpath.  The footpath leads gradually up into the woods.  Follow the top path all the way along and then descend the steep path, which emerges near the footbridge, over to Derwent Gardens.  You will pass several other path options down the hillside, which wind down steep steps to the pirate ship playground, by Jubilee Bridge.  There are several cliff top viewing spots, so ensure children are under supervision.

This higher route through the woodland is more suitable for older children, due to the uneven steep steps and cliff top edges. To access the lower riverside path, cross the bridge from the car park entrance and turn left to reach Jubilee Bridge.
