Perri the Peregrine Launches new Derwent Valley Line Activity Book
Perri the Peregrine and friends have launched a new fun Activity Book for families to discover the Derwent Valley Line.
The Activity Book has been produced to inspire families to take a ride on the Derwent Valley Line between Nottingham, Derby and Matlock and explore the wonderful history, wildlife and landscape of the Derwent Valley.
The new Activity Book includes a fun family walking trail from each station on the Derwent Valley Line between Duffield and Matlock. Throughout the Activity Book, Perri the Peregrine invites children to ‘Spot things and do stuff’ with numerous family orientated quizzes and activities to take part in. Whether it be the Green Man Trail in Matlock Bath, learning about the Heroines of Whatstandwell, Tunnel Talk or being a Gongoozler, the Derwent Valley Line Activity Book is a great way to discover the Derwent Valley Line.
Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, Chair of the Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership said: “The new Activity Book is a wonderfully creative and fun way for families to come and explore the Derwent Valley Line. I am sure the Activity Book with Perri the Peregrine is going to be really popular with families for a day out on the Derwent Valley Line”.
Donna Adams Community Rail Manager at East Midlands Trains said “The activity book is engaging, educational and fun for all ages to travel along the Derwent Valley line. Whether you are new to travelling along the line or are a seasoned traveller there is plenty for you to learn about the surrounding area, from it’s rich history to the plentiful wildlife.”
Jools Townsend, chief executive of the Association of Community Rail Partnerships, said: “This is a fantastic example of community rail in action – engaging local families in their railway, while raising awareness about the local landscape, nature and history. It’s so important that we reach out to children and their parents with the sustainable travel message, and to help more families explore our beautiful countryside by rail. We’ll be sharing this great example amongst other community rail partnerships around Britain.”
The character of Perri the Peregrine has been based upon the Peregrine Falcons that nest in the Derwent Valley at Derby Cathedral and on Belper Mill. At the launch event at Derby Railway Station, Perri the Peregrine was joined by Bertie the Badger from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. They were joined by representatives from the Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership, East Midlands Trains and ACoRP who have worked to produce and fund the new Derwent Valley Line Activity Book.
