Public transport digital displays prove popular

Real time public transport digital displays in Belper and Matlock have proved popular with over 12,000 people using the interactive touch screen, to access a range of local transport and visitor information.

In Belper and Matlock, real time public transport and interactive displays have seen over 12,000 people use the interactive screen between May and December 2022.

The top screen provides real time bus and train information including destination and stop information as well as providing wayfinding information to local places of interest, making it easier for people to continue their onward journey on foot, by bus or by train.  The top screen has also been utilised to promote local events, including Belper Food Fair as well as promoting public transport changes for example, commuter trains returning to Nottingham.

The lower display has interactive functionality through a touch screen providing local information, events and tourism with a drop down menu to access journey planning, things to do, maps and useful websites options.   The journey planner enables any public transport journey to be entered and options provided for that journey which can be downloaded using a QR code.  The interactive screen also has an accessibility option so that the information drops to the bottom of the screen to assist disabled users.

The most viewed pages on both screens have been the local tourism maps and things to do which links into the Derwent Valley Line website providing details of numerous places to visits in the Derwent Valley.

The real time public transport and interactive digital displays have been funded by Community Rail Network, CrossCountry Trains, Derbyshire County Council, Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership and East Midlands Railway.  View East Midlands Railway’s video about the displays.

The displays are located on the Station Approach in Matlock and on King Street in Belper.  Another display unit is planned to be installed outside Belper Bus Station in spring 2023.
