Going peat-free at Derwent Valley Line stations

Station adopters on the Derwent Valley line have been going green, with the help of 100% recycled peat-free compost.

Last year H W Martin kindly donated some to the Community Rail Partnership for us to try, and the station adopters are delighted with the results. The compost is made from 100% recycled green waste and is available £3 from household waste recycling centres in Derbyshire and Raynesway in Derby.

“I’ve started using this at home as well and I’m very pleased with it” says CRP Officer Alastair Morley. “It’s great to know we’re using sustainable materials to keep the stations looking so colourful and welcoming for people and pollinators.”

Craig Capper, Contracts Manager for HW Martin, says: “HW Martin are continuing to provide peat-free compost at all of the recycling centres across Derbyshire and the Raynesway HWRC in Derby, this product is a result of the green waste initially delivered into the recycling centres or collected at the kerbside in Derby then sending on for treatment, the bags are available for £3, it’s the perfect recycling loop, residents green waste is processed and the end results are a reduced priced product that residents can purchase and use to transform their green spaces as a thank you for all their efforts helping Derbyshire/Derby recycling as much of the household waste as possible at the centres.”
