Feeling festive in Derwent Valley

The festive season is here! Get into the spirit with this selection of sparkling experiences in Derwent Valley.

Victorian Matlock Christmas Market

1-3 December 2023, 9am-6pm
Experience this local gem of a Christmas market. With over 200 stalls, you’ll find an array of food, drink, crafts and gifts. There’s something for everyone, from family-friendly festive performances to traditional fairground rides. The market is very popular, so arrive by train to avoid the hassle of parking (and perhaps enjoy a mulled wine or two).

Belper Winter Food and Gift Fair

3 December, 10am-3pm
Enjoy Belper’s thriving market and find locally-produced gifts and festive fayre for the winter season. It couldn’t be easier to get there by train, so hop on board to soak in the atmosphere of this independent-spirited town.
Take part in a community Carol Service at the Market Place at 6pm on Friday 22 December.

Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink, Derby

2-31 December, 11am-3pm
Get into the spirit of winter with Derby’s popular Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink. Suitable for all ages and abilities, enjoy skating under twinkling lights in the city centre while listening to festive music. Why not head one of Derby’s many pubs or cafes afterwards for a steaming hot chocolate or pint of something stronger.

Nottingham Winter Wonderland and Christmas Fair

7 November – 31 December, 10am-11pm
Be dazzled by the spectacular array of festive experiences which make up Nottingham Winter Wonderland. From the skating rink to the ice bar, Christmas market and glittering “big wheel”, there’s something for all ages. Some experiences need to be booked in advance so please check the Winter Wonderland website.

Striking New Artwork Unveiled at the Matlock Station Footbridge

An impressive 3.4 square metre artwork depicting a Midland Railway 1000 Class steam locomotive has transformed Matlock Station Footbridge..

This type of locomotive was a common sight in Matlock until the 1960s.

The Unveiling Ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the transformation of the pedestrian approach to Matlock Station.
