Arts, crafts and creative heritage in Derwent Valley

The Derwent Valley has outstanding industrial and cultural heritage, and has a vibrant arts and crafts scene today. Here's our roundup of some upcoming arts events for all ages and budgets.

Artisan Market, The Old Lock Up Gallery and half term fun - Cromford

Head to Cromford Mills every third Sunday of the month to enjoy an artisan market packed with local products. There are also several antiques and vintage fairs held at Cromford Mills throughout the year: Cromford Mills | The Birthplace of The Modern Factory System

Look out for free art and craft themed family activities run by Derbyshire County Council throughout the school holidays at High Peak Junction. Nottingham Contemporary

Nottingham Contemporary is one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the UK. Just 10-15 minutes from the train station, the gallery hosts exhibitions, events and family activities throughout the year, many of which are free. Nottingham Contemporary | Nottingham Contemporary

Striking New Artwork Unveiled at the Matlock Station Footbridge

An impressive 3.4 square metre artwork depicting a Midland Railway 1000 Class steam locomotive has transformed Matlock Station Footbridge..

This type of locomotive was a common sight in Matlock until the 1960s.

The Unveiling Ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the transformation of the pedestrian approach to Matlock Station.
