Matlock Bath Illuminations 2026
One of Derbyshire’s most popular autumn events, Matlock Bath Illuminations returns for 2026 with a spectacular celebration for the whole family.
The season opens with a Preview Night on Saturday 12 September, before running every Saturday and Sunday from 19 September to 1 November, plus Friday 30 October.
The highlight of the event is the famous parade of illuminated and decorated boats along the River Derwent. Created by the dedicated volunteers of the Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders’ Association, themed displays are mounted on rowing boats and illuminated with hundreds of colourful lights, creating a magical evening spectacle. The boat parade takes place in Derwent Gardens and can be viewed with admission to the gardens.
Visitors can also enjoy spectacular firework displays every Saturday in October, as well as on the final night, Sunday 1 November, with fireworks beginning at 8.30pm.
With family entertainment, dazzling illuminated boats and a vibrant atmosphere, Matlock Bath Illuminations is a much-loved tradition and a fantastic evening out.
Please note: Matlock Bath is particularly busy on Saturdays, so allow extra time for your journey and plan ahead. Travelling by train is the best way to enjoy the illuminations without the stress of parking.
