LEAWOOD PUMPHOUSE STEAM OPERATING DAYS

17 September 2023

See the magnificent steam beam engine in action at Leawood Pumphouse

Leawood Pumphouse was built in 1849 to pump water from the River Derwent into Cromford Canal.

It is now well over 150 years old but remains in pristine working condition thanks to the dedication of the Middleton Top and Leawood Pump Volunteer Group.

Make the most of a visit by experiencing the power of Leawood Pump in steam. The heat of the boilers, the smell of grease and coal and the power of the wave as 4 tons of water are pumped up into the canal from the river below.

Leawood Pumphouse has regular steaming dates throughout the year from Easter until October.

From Cromford station it is about a 30 minute (1.5 mile) walk along the Cromford Canal, see the Cromford walking route from our Activity Book

From Whatstandwell station it is about a 40 minute (2 mile) walk along the Cromford Canal, see the Whatstandwell walking route from our Activity Book

Address

Leawood Pump House is situated on the Cromford Canal, just beyond High Peak Junction. See the walking routes from either Cromford or Whatstandwell station in our Family Activity Book - see links above.
