Derwent Valley Tours: Matlock Hydros

A short circular 2 mile walk exploring the impact of the hydros on the development of Matlock.

A short circular 2 mile walk starting from the former Smedley’s Hydropathic Establishment, built in 1852. It will then explore the top of Matlock Bank, seeking out other hydros including Chatsworth (formerly Jeff’s Poplar Hydro). Lilybank (formerly Dalefield), Malvern House, Oldham House, Rockside and will examine the impact of the hydros on the development of Matlock.

What you’ll need:

Suitable clothing and footwear for pavement walking. Parts of the route are short steep climbs.

Meet at the entrance to County Hall on Smedley Street, Matlock (DE4 3AG), steep uphill walk from railway and bus stations.
